Sites like MSN and Yahoo are great for national and international news, but they dont have anything local for anyone, at least not yet. Many times items you search for will come up from a local paper from anywhere in the world, and that is a great way to get news items and stories that you might not otherwise find.

Though the online newspaper is a great thing, it doesnt have everything. Many times a local newspaper is affiliated with a local news broadcast, and they wont put stuff online until after it has been reported on the local news. This is in an effort to keep people watching the news. If everything were reported in real time on an online newspaper, there would be little need to watch the news for the major events.

You might find a small snippet with almost no information but if you want the real story, you are going to have to wait until after it airs on television.

There are other things you cannot get with an online newspaper. There are many great columns that are only run in the print version, as well as things like the comics and other fun stuff that many like to have along with their daily news. The online newspaper is designed to give you the news but wont give you much else. They arent going to give you much in the way of editorials either, though some are changing that. You can find some classified ads and some job leads, but for the most comprehensive list you need to get the physical version of the paper.

When a news event occurs, you can find a lot of flavor by reading an online newspaper, and you may get a point of view that you cant get on the news. You will find that opinions vary depending on where the online paper comes from, and you will find just how much the same news item differently affects people in different parts of your country of in different parts of the world. Its a great way to see all sides of an issue or a story. An online newspaper is a great way to learn about different people and different ways of life.
