If you live in the US, you may or may not experience snow, but you probably experience a time of year when the temps are not as high as usual. Though it is cooler, and there might be snow on the ground, you still have to worry about the winter sun.

There is no time during the year when you dont have to worry about getting skin damage. The winter sun might not be as intense as the summer sun, but it can still do damage. You have to remember this when you go outside in the winter sun for more than ten or fifteen minutes. If you dont want to bother with sun screen in the winter, and most people do not, you can always wear moisturizer that has SPF protection.

The winter sun can be very hard on the eyes as well. Many dont think to wear sunglasses when they go out in the winter, but it is actually a very good idea. When there is snow on the ground, the winter sun will glare up and into the eyes even more harshly than it does in the summer time. This can make driving hard in some cases, and can even cause momentary blindness when you are walking down the sidewalk.

Dont mistake the level of heat with the intensity of the sun during the winter months. Even those in the lower part of the US think they can get away without sunscreen in the winter months. It might only be fifty degrees, but the rays of the winter sun are just as harmful. Remember to keep your children protected in all seasons so they dont have to worry about skin cancer as much as our generation does. My mothers generation was probably one of the first to do a lot of damage to their skin, and by the time they realized what they had done it was too late to warn their children about the dangers.

It is very easy to buy dresses in the summer, as the weather is warm and most dresses are just made for that type of temperature.

They are often cool and light, and that makes wearing them a breeze in the summer, and they also work well in the fall and the spring for the most part. I love to put dresses on my little girl, and she always wears them when she goes to church on the weekends. However, when it comes to winter dresses, I sometimes have problems keeping her as warm as I would like her to be.

There are winter dresses out there for sale, and they are warmer than the ones you would wear in the summer, but that is something not enough. Most of them have thicker material, and they do keep the torso warm. However, when it comes to the legs, neck and arms, there are other problems. You cant imagine how easily these areas can cause someone to shiver unless you have stood out in the winter without those areas being covered.

They make a huge difference and most winter dresses to not cover them.

The best we can do is to buy her stockings that are thicker than normal nylons for her legs, and to put long sleeved turtlenecks under her winter dresses. This might seem like a lot under a heavy winter jacket, but I have yet to see her complain about being too hot with that much on her body in the winter. In fact, she seems to be just fine. This seems to work under thinner types of dress as well, but we do try to buy her heavier winter dresses so that she can remain warm.

Shell be starting school next year, and I think I will try to refrain from sending her in winter dresses unless it is a special occasion. When she is old enough to decide if she wants to be cold on her way to school in the winter then she can decide if she wants to wear them or not. I dont remember wearing a lot of dresses to school when I was a kid, and that was because of my long walk to the bus stop. I thought it was because I was a tomboy, but perhaps my mom just had my comfort in mind as well. Some days I was cold, but it wasnt because I was wearing a dress.

You would never catch me trying out winter camping, but there are many who love to do it each year. To me, sleeping around in the cold is not something I would look forward to, but some dont mind the cold as much as others.

There are some really great reasons to go camping in the winter, but when you do so, you do have to be sure your warmth and comfort are ensured before you go. It is very easy to die from exposure if you dont have the right type of equipment.

As you can imagine, most winter camping is done in the northern states. New York and Pennsylvania are two states that have some great spots for this type of activity. Some who like to go winter camping like to do things like ice fishing and other winter sports. Camping is just a natural extension of these things for those people, and they make a vacation out of those activities. Some state parks in some states have specific public camping areas that are used for winter activities like camping.

When you consider winter camping, you have to think about what type you want to do. If you really think you want to sleep in a tent, you have to be sure you have the right one. There are tents made especially for this type of camping, and if you dont get one like that, you are easily going to freeze. Regular tents do offer some protection, but they simply will not do in this case. Along the same lines, you have to have clothing meant to keep the body warm in the most extreme cases. Theres nothing like a bout of frost bite to ruin a great vacation.

You may even find supplies and the like made just for winter camping if you look around online. You can find sites devoted to camping of all types, and this will include the things essential to camping out in the cold. You may even find sites that offer information and tips to make your trip more enjoyable, and tips about where to go and even when to go. Though you wont have much trouble reserving space, if need be, for winter camping, you may want to do so in advance. You should remember that even though wintertime camping is something that is considered extreme, there are times when the weather will close all areas, even if you have a reservation and the will to see it through.

When I heard that we were going on vacation to Winston Salem North Carolina, I immediately pictured racecar driving. This was fine but Im not much of a fan of the sport.

However, as I got to learn more and more about the area, I discovered that there is a lot more to Winston Salem North Carolina than racing. In fact, there are so many attractions that I think we many need to return for a future trip.

The most appealing of the attractions is the areas wine industry. I had no idea that Winston Salem North Carolina had the type of climate that is good for grapes. Actually, the region is ideal and there are plenty of wineries around to prove it. Just reading about the many places to visit for wine lovers made me really thirsty.

There is a long history of wine-making in Winston Salem North Carolina. The various wineries and vineyards in this area have been in service for over 100 years.

I usually associate North American wines with the Napa Valley region but North Carolina is ideal for this product.

The success of the various wineries in Winston Salem is due to the climate. The temperature is commonly pretty mild and this is ideal for growing the perfect grape for the perfect wine. The land is known for being rich and fertile in Winston Salem North Carolina and the producers of the wine are skilled in their craft.

There is little surprise that there are over 500,000 gallons of wine produced in this region every year. This mind-boggling figure is no shock to a real wine lover like me. I know how easy it is to finish an entire bottle of good wine during a nice meal. I cant tell you how much I am looking forward to the trip.

The wine isnt the only thing drawing us to Winston Salem North Carolina. There are many fine places to stay and there are tons of activities in this relatively underestimated city. I can see that our trip is going to be fantastic and our accommodations will be really comfy, too.

My husbands relatives who live in this region will be surprised to find us staying over a week in Winston Salem North Carolina. I know that we will share wonderful times together but I am also excited to explore this town as a couple, too. The city is known for its romantic accommodations. I just hope his relatives dont think were staying with them.

Winnie The Pooh Toys

Just thinking about this blows me away. I know if sounds clichut it really does seem like only yesterday that I was in grade school without a care in the world. Now I am not only out of grade school, high school and college, but I have raised my family and am helping them prepare for raising their own. Each day seems to speed by faster. Maybe they go so fast because I realize there are still many things I want to do with my time on earth.

When I was a little girl my mother let me help decorate my room. I absolutely love Winnie the pooh toys. This was the theme for my room. Mom had a friend that was an artist. She came and painted a Winnie the pooh mural on my bedroom walls. I loved my room and kept the friendly bear, tiger and donkey mural through high school. When I left for college the mural was painted over to create a home office space for my parents.

There is no greater gift at Christmas than to have everything you want before you open the gifts.

When my daughter was born Winnie the pooh toys were still popular. I did not have to hire a painter I found a wallpaper border that had the characters on them. I put the border up in my daughters room. She had many things to play with as a child, but her favorites were always the Winnie the pooh toys. She loved listening to the story and during that time the cartoons featuring Winnie and his friends were on television. That was her favorite show. While I was working in the kitchen or in another part of the house I always knew when her show came on because she would be quietly sitting in front of the television.

Now as she is beginning to raise her family Winnie the pooh is again the decoration and theme of choice. She has bedding and other accessories with the lovable bear on. It seems that the more time passes the more we love the story of the misfits that became friends and had adventures together. The images have changed slightly through the years to keep up with the times, but they are still very similar to the one I had painted on my wall as a child. It is comforting to know that in our ever changing world you can still count of Winnie the pooh and Tiger too.

Wildlife Feeders

When I was growing up, we never had wildlife feeders outside. You didn't need them. I lived in farm country, and on the edge of farm country at that.

In front of the house, there were fields and fields of wheat. Behind the house, there was nothing but forest. A wildlife feeder would have been unnecessary all I had to do was to wander into the wild.

When I moved into the city, however, things were much different. By the time I was 15, I was bored to tears by the farm country. I never realized how much I would miss it once it was gone. Nowadays, I don't see anything but pigeons and squirrels. My job keeps me busy most days, and by the weekend I am too tired to take a road trip out into the country. It is slow and subtle, but the city is crushing my soul one step at a time.

I never would have thought of wildlife feeders as a possible solution on my own. You see, my grandmother had a supposedly squirrel proof bird feeder. It wasn't.

The squirrels would get the bird feed every time, and who wanted to feed squirrels? It wasn't like there weren't enough of them already! I actually wouldn't have gotten the idea if I hadn't been asked to babysit my sister's dog for the weekend. She was relieved to have me there. She was a gadget maniac, and she usually used an automatic pet feeder to take care of her dog. Then, all she had to do was let the dog go in and out through the doggie door to do his business.

Unfortunately, the automatic pet feeder was broken and she needed someone to watch her dog. The dog was so used to that automatic feeder that every time he was hungry he would run over to it. Even after I had been there for a few days, he didn't quite understand the food came from me and not the feeder machine. That is when I first started thinking about getting wildlife feeders. Maybe they could work after all!

That very next day, I went and looked at wildlife feeders at a sporting goods store. It turns out that many of them are designed for hunters, but some of them are still made for people who simply want to have more critters in their yards. I bought a hummingbird feeder, and tried it out the next day. I have had hummingbirds in my yard ever since!

Today, I'm a big pile of love.

Wicker Furniture

If you're in the market for furniture for any room or even outdoor location, give a thought to wicker furniture, with its certain charm and romance, cane-woven texture and stained, painted or oiled surface.

Wicker furniture brings to mind tropical islands or a charming bed and breakfast in the south of France. Some of the appeal may be attributed to this warm, inviting and comfortable look.

Wicker furniture may be made of a number of vining woods with four main groups. These are bamboo, reed, rattan and willow. They're then woven in to the furniture piece.

When shopping for wicker, look for quality and solid construction. The best pieces will be woven tightly, with a snag-free surface and no splinters. The underside of the legs should have hard rubber tips or casters to protect the furniture.

Don't be tempted to buy wicker furniture requiring you to assemble the piece. Working with wicker is an art, and joining pieces is best done by the manufacturer.

Similarly, if shopping used furniture, be aware that re-caning is not cheap and may cost more than the piece.

This type of furniture may be used in the garden, but you must take special care to prevent damage from mildew and exposure to the elements. When using outdoors, be sure you get some furniture covers to protect throughout the winter. However, there are also resin materials which can replicate the look of wicker furniture quite closely. So this is an alternative you may want to consider.

Conversely, dry winter heat tends to dry out the wicker furniture, so you'll want an oiled or sealed finish to prevent this aging of your new furniture. You can use oil, varnish or varathane to seal the furniture.

Maintenance of wicker furniture is minimal, especially in the case of indoor wicker furniture. Simply vacuum with the brush attachment or dust as you do your weekly cleaning. Be careful not to wet the wicker as this can lead to mildew.

Sealed wicker furniture may be taken outside and cleaned on a yearly basis with a mild soap and water solution. Spray off with a hose and set in the sun. A warm, breezy day is a good time to clean the furniture, as it dries quickly. Use a sponge or clothe squeezed dry when cleaning painted wicker, so that you do not wet the wicker. Depending on the piece, you may want to turn it over to make for faster drying time.

Don't be tempted to sit on your furniture until it is completely dry, which takes 3 or 4 days. It must be thoroughly dry before use, or you risk the piece sagging or stretching in unattractive ways.

Wicker is so attractive, you can find a piece for any room in your home. In fact, an entire bedroom of wicker furniture produces a charming and comfortable atmosphere. The again, a single wicker towel closet in the bathroom can almost constitute a makeover.

Those gasps of astonishment, those shrieks of pleasure, those sighs of delight, lost long ago when your children grew wise and wordly ~ are suddenly given back to you by your grandchildren. What seems to be the same small hands clutch yours, dragging you from one excitement to another ~ "Look! Oh, look! come ON!"
