New England Skiing

The eastern part of the USA is fortunate in having so many ski resorts to choose from. New England skiing offers state of the art facilities for families, beginners and experts and provides some of the most scenic countryside as a backdrop.

Many resorts have snowmaking systems, extending the season for everyone's enjoyment. Resorts can be found in Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. These states welcome the boost that winter sports bring to their economy each year.

In Vermont, the Suicide Six is a popular resort, despite the name! Located in the Green Mountains, it attracts families and skiers of all abilities. There is an area for novices and the 23 trails include the expert only Face Run. There is a cafeteria, a shop for sales and repairs, a ski school and equipment for rent. The resort also welcome cross country skiing and snowboarding.

The Woodstock Ski Touring Center is a specialist resort for cross country New England skiing, across 60km of trails.

The Black Mountain resort is the oldest one in New Hampshire and is situated in the charming village of Jackson. The surrounding countryside is beautiful farmland and visitors can go on a snow shoe trek or sleigh ride. The resort is popular with families and beginners learn on Sugarbush or Black Beauty Mountain. The spots for expert skiers are the steep Mr. Rew or Upper Galloping Goose.

The Blue Hills Ski Area is a convenient 15 minutes from Boston in Massachusetts. The resort has been recently upgraded and novice skiers and snowboarders are welcomed with rental equipment available and tuition. The 60 acres of skiing includes 8 trails and 5 lifts. Blue Hills has a special place in New England skiing, as it is the official center for snowboarding. The scenic mountain is illuminated to enable night skiing and there is a ski shop and cafeteria.

The state of Maine also has many ski resorts, including the Big Squaw Mountain Resort in the beautiful region of Moosehead Lake on the edge of the Great North Woods. The views are famous, especially from the top of Mount Kineo, Spencer Mountain and Mount Katahdin, which is the highest peak in the state and is part of the Appalachian range. The 33 trails provide runs for all levels of ability and there are trails for cross country skiing through the woods. Snowboarders are also most welcome here and make a valuable contribution to New England skiing.

When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. And one thing it takes to accomplish something is courage.
