It seems that many of us like to keep special reminders about things that we have experienced in our life. My mother was great at keeping track of each of our accomplishments as we were growing up.

She created scrapbooks for us. This was many years before scrap booking became a million dollar industry. Our scrapbooks had a leather cover and manila colored pages. Newspaper articles, photos, programs from events and ticket stubs were pasted on the pages. The front and back covers were attached by a cord that ran through all the pages in the book. This way pages could be added as needed.

Today scrap booking is much more sophisticated. There are special adhesives that are used to secure photographs so they are not damaged. There are borders that can be purchased to compliment the event that is being displayed on a page. There is even a publication Memory Makers Magazine that is designed to help think of inspirational sayings to include on the pages of the books that are being created.

A friend is someone you can do nothing with and enjoy it.

A couple of the women that I work with went on a weekend retreat that was sponsored by Memory Makers Magazine. The retreat was held at a hotel located in a suburb.

The Monday after the weekend my co-workers were excited about the amount of scrap booking they were able to complete and the great ideas they picked up. The retreat started on a Friday evening with appetizers, wine, coffee, soft drinks and desserts. Each woman was given a space in the large conference room. The space included two large tables that were placed to form an L. The chair they were given to use was on wheels so they could roll from one area to the next to find items they were looking for. This area was secured so all the pictures clippings and other items that you brought with you could remain spread out on your tables for the entire weekend. Memory Makers Magazine had several of their publications available for use as well as many products. Many discontinued items were available for use free of charge. They also provided adhesives, scissors and different borders for the participants to use. Each person had a hotel room that they could go to when they wanted to rest. All day Saturday there were mini demonstrations to show different techniques for creating special memories, but the majority of the time was dedicated to scrap booking your personal items without interruptions. Food was provided throughout the weekend. My co-workers were able to get a great deal more accomplished than they ever would have trying to work at home. They are hoping that Memory Makers Magazine will sponsor another retreat soon. The cost was reasonable and the accommodations comfortable.

If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay home.
