King Size Mattress

We all have one of those relatives that make life really, um, interesting. When my snippety sister-in-law poked her nosey nose into my bedroom, she exclaimed that there was no way that we had a king size mattress.

This statement came as a bit of a surprise for two reasons.

First of all, we do own a king size mattress and second, I didnt remember showing her our bedroom. Of course, she just couldnt resist poking her head in our most private retreat to neb around. And of course, she couldnt stop herself from making an unnecessary comment about the relatively small king size mattress.

This whole episode made me a little aggravated. A little criticism is one thing but when you attack a persons sleeping space you have really stepped over the mark. Actually, I did think that our king size mattress was a little small compared to others. I just didnt know why.

The next week, we had the uh, pleasure of seeing my nosy sister in law again.

A family is where holidays are celebrated with feasting, birthdays are acknowledged with gifts, and thoughts of days gone by kept alive with fond remembrances.

This time we were guests in her home. I decided to give her a taste of her own medicine. I poked my head in her bedroom but I was pretty disappointed to see a king size mattress that was actually bigger than ours.

How could this be, I thought? One king size mattress should be the same size as another, right? I wound up keeping my mouth shut for most of the evening, stewing in my jealous steam when my, err, lovely sister in law suggested that we take a tour of their lovely home. The whole thing made me want to toss dessert. I mean at her head.

Of course, she led us down her grand hall to make way to her grand bedroom with her freakishly oversized king size mattress. I was really ready to just go home and plop down on my relatively tiny bed and cry myself to sleep. I decided to do a little research instead.

As it turns out, not all king size mattress styles are created equal. Evidently, my sister in law invested in a California king instead of the standard deal. I went online and purchased a California-sized bed for my home. I also bought some bed raisers to make the king size mattress stand higher than hers.

All this sibling rivalry may seem a little over-the-top but it did come at a good time. Our bed was over ten years old. We were due for a new one anyway.

No matter how much time you spend in front of the mirror, nothing can make you as beautiful as having the spirit.
