Healthy Appetizers

healthy appetizers

There seems to be a lot of interesting views on what is healthy for the body and what is not. Though we have been told forever that high fat foods are bad for our bodies, many successfully lose weight on Atkins by eating those foods.

"Deeply impressed with the blessing which we enjoy, and of which we have manifold proofs, my mind is irresistibly drawn to that Almighty Being, the great source from whence they proceed and to whom our most grateful acknowledgements are due."-- James Monroe, Dec. 3, 1821, message to Congress

It is a personal choice for everyone, but the majority wants lower calories and lower fat foods when they want to serve healthy appetizers. These are not hard to come by, and if someone doesnt want to buy them, they can make them at home. They can also be requested when someone is hosting a special event that is being catered.

Most people have a hard time with vegetables at one time or another, but almost anyone will eat carrot and celery sticks.

These are very healthy and can be served with any type of dip for a casual event healthy appetizer. The dip can be something simple, or it can be something special made. It will depend on what the host is looking for. These healthy appetizers are especially great with kids, as they love to dip things, and they will eat healthier foods if they can eat them in a fun way. Though you can add broccoli or cauliflower to this type of appetizer, not all children will eat them. Adults may though, as they taste really good with some dips.

One favorite of the healthy appetizers is the shrimp cocktail. Seafood is very good for any one, and most people love this food. The sauce is usually made with ketchup and horseradish, and because so little is ingested with the shrimp, its not a bad addition. Other seafood healthy appetizers might be crab cakes (baked, not fried) or anything made with salmon. These should always be prepared with healthy oils if oil is necessary and baked in the oven when heating or cooking is needed.

Though it might not be easy to serve only healthy appetizers, offering something will give guests the opportunity to eat well. Those watching their weight or what they eat for health reasons will appreciate that there are healthy appetizers available to them when they come. Though no one expects a special menu for them when someone entertains, it is always a nice and an appreciated touch that they will not soon forget. These dont have to be fancy, as long as they are a great mix of good taste and great health.

For memory has painted this perfect day with colors that never fade...
