When someone dies, there is often so much sadness in the air that it is hard to think straight. Luckily, there is always someone who can put this aside long enough to come up with some special things to say about and do for their loved one that has just passed on.

Many like to do some sort of funeral memorial of the loved one, and these are often very appreciated by those who attend the funeral. There are many ways to go about doing this, but really, anything anyone can do will end up being just fine.

When my sister in law died we were all shocked because she was very young. She was 23, and had just given birth to her daughter. It was amazing that we could function well enough to take care of the baby let alone plan something for her funeral memorial. Luckily, there were many around us who knew we werent doing well, and they took care of many of the things that need to be done. This left us a little time to think about the funeral memorial.

Not only was she my sister in law, she was also my best friend, so I thought it was up to me to come up with something special.

The first thing we did to put together her funeral memorial was to gather pictures from her life. We didnt have a lot to work with, but we managed to find some good ones. We had pictures from my wedding and her wedding, but precious few of her with her new baby. We also have pictures of her at a very young age and as a teenager. The early teen years were missing, but we had enough. We put them together on two boards and set them in the funeral home so those coming in could view them. This is a common thing that many families do.

Some families like to write things about their loved ones for funeral memories, and I did that as well. I wrote a poem about her, but I could not stand up to read it. Instead, the man performing the funeral ceremony read it for me. I couldnt listen to it without breaking down so there was no way I could read it. A few other people wrote something as well, and in the end I think we had a funeral memorial that showed what she meant to us.
