I have some very good friends in Australia, and they have taught me much about their country. One of the most interesting things we talk about are events in Australia history.

Their history is just as interesting as ours, if not more so. Though many think that the story about convicts settling the country is something of a myth, it is in fact true. You may think this is a horrible history to have, and that it might make things rough, but I think they have worked it out pretty well. Australians have a marked advantage when it comes to their outlook on life.

Perhaps it is just the people I know, but I think the country as a whole is more laid back than Americans, yet they enjoy the same quality of life that we do. Throughout Australia history they have had many of the same trials and growing pains as we have had, but they have come out of them in a different way. They tend to take life seriously, but never themselves.

They are the first to laugh at themselves, and I find this to be a wonderful trait. If you take yourself to seriously, you are going to be stressed out and eventually, miserable.

Australia history tells of how England sent their convicts to this land as a punishment, but in the end they joke was not really a joke. Australia flourished, though they did have their darker moments, and even moments when they may have thought they were not going to make it. If you know someone in Australia, ask them about Melbourne Cup Day. This horse race brings the country to a halt. Very few people work, and most people, even the children, make monetary wagers on the races. One of my Aussie friends joked that this is what happens when your country is settled by convicts.

If you want to learn more about Australia history, you can find great books on the subject, but you might get a more colorful and real representation if you talk to an Australian. Book reading can be dry, and I have learned much more by just asking. Australia history can teach you many great things about this country and may even make you want to visit. I know I do. Every country in the world as their own unique and interesting history, and Australia is certainly not exception.
